Cold Laser Therapy
Painless, noninvasive light therapy that supports healing.

Cold Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy is low-intensity laser therapy that stimulates healing while using low levels of light. During this procedure, different wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted area. The body tissue then absorbs the light. The red and near-infrared light cause a reaction, and the damaged cells respond with a physiological reaction that promotes regeneration. Although you will feel the laser device touching your skin, the procedure is painless and noninvasive. There will be no sound and you will feel no vibration or heat. Each treatment typically takes only up to a few minutes.
How It Works
How cold laser therapy is delivered
A handheld device is held against or just above the skin over the area being treated, and low-level red and near-infrared light is applied for a set time. You stay clothed apart from exposing the region itself. There is no sound, no vibration and no heat — most patients feel only the device touching the skin.
Sessions are short, usually a few minutes per area, and are given as part of a wider treatment plan rather than as a stand-alone appointment. Protective eyewear is used where required.
What It Addresses
What cold laser therapy is used for
Cold laser is used here as one component of a session, for presentations like these.
- Local application to a specific area alongside hands-on treatment
- Patients who do not tolerate pressure over an area well
- Adding a passive component to a session without adding load to the tissue
- Areas where a non-invasive, drug-free option is being tried first
What to Expect
One-on-one care, built around you
Your care begins with a one-on-one evaluation. Rather than focusing on the symptoms alone, we establish a cause and effect relationship through accurate palpation and assessment of the body, then build a rehabilitation program customized to your individual needs.
- The area is exposed and the skin cleaned. Bring or wear clothing that lets the region be reached.
- The device is applied for a few minutes per area. It is painless and you will feel no heat or vibration.
- It is normally combined with the manual and movement work in your plan in the same visit.
- No downtime — you can go straight back to work or your day afterwards.
Common Questions
Questions we are asked about Cold Laser Therapy
- Does cold laser therapy hurt?
- No. The procedure is painless and noninvasive. You will feel the device touching your skin, but there is no sound, no vibration and no sensation of heat.
- How long does a session take?
- Each treatment typically takes only up to a few minutes. It is normally given within a longer appointment alongside your other treatment rather than booked on its own.
- Is there anything I need to do afterwards?
- No. There is no downtime and no aftercare specific to the laser. Continue with whatever your therapist has set for you between visits.
- Is it suitable for everyone?
- Not in every situation. There are circumstances where low-level laser is not used — over certain areas, and where particular medical conditions or medications are involved. Tell your therapist about your medical history and everything you take, and they will tell you whether it is appropriate for you.
