Hand & Wrist Pain
Wrist and hand assessed with the forearm, elbow and neck.

Hand & Wrist Pain
Hand and wrist symptoms can come from the local joints and tendons or from the forearm, elbow and neck above them, and the examination is what tells them apart. We assess the whole limb, treat the structures the examination implicates, and pair that with the mobility and strength work the hand needs for daily tasks.
How It Works
How we assess and treat a hand and wrist
The wrist and hand are assessed together with the forearm, elbow and neck, because symptoms felt in the hand can be produced locally or referred from further up the limb. The examination establishes which it is before treatment starts.
Treatment addresses the structures the examination implicates and is paired with mobility and strength work aimed at the tasks you actually need the hand for.
What It Addresses
What hand and wrist treatment addresses
Hand and wrist treatment here is used to address presentations like these. What is driving yours is established at the evaluation.
- Wrist pain with weight-bearing, gripping or repetitive tasks
- Hand and finger symptoms including numbness or tingling being investigated on examination
- Stiffness and reduced grip identified on assessment
- Hand and wrist symptoms after an injury or a period of immobilisation that has been medically cleared
What to Expect
One-on-one care, built around you
Your care begins with a one-on-one evaluation. Rather than focusing on the symptoms alone, we establish a cause and effect relationship through accurate palpation and assessment of the body, then build a rehabilitation program customized to your individual needs.
- Grip strength and wrist range of motion tested and recorded.
- Examination of the forearm, elbow and neck as part of the assessment.
- Hands-on treatment where the findings support it, with exercise aimed at daily tasks.
- A home program you can do without equipment.
Common Questions
Questions we are asked about Hand & Wrist Pain
- My fingers go numb. What does that mean?
- Numbness can come from the wrist, the forearm or the neck, and the examination tests for where it is coming from. If the findings suggest a physician opinion or testing is warranted, we will tell you.
- I had a cast off recently. Can you treat that?
- Yes, once your physician has cleared you to begin rehabilitation. Bring any instructions or restrictions they gave you.
- Will I need a splint?
- That depends on the presentation and is discussed at your evaluation rather than assumed beforehand.
- Do I need a referral, and is it covered?
- We accept major insurance providers, but coverage for hand and wrist treatment varies by plan, and some plans ask for a physician's referral or prescription while others do not. Call (212) 922-0044 before your first visit and we will confirm your coverage and tell you what, if anything, you need to bring.
