Elbow Pain
The elbow examined with the neck, shoulder and wrist.

Elbow Pain
Elbow symptoms often involve the tendons around the joint, but the neck, shoulder and wrist all contribute to how the elbow is loaded and can refer symptoms into it. We examine them together, treat what the examination finds, and build the graded loading work these tendons need.
How It Works
How we assess and treat an elbow
Elbow symptoms frequently involve the tendons around the joint, but the neck, shoulder and wrist all affect how the elbow is loaded and can refer symptoms into it. The examination covers the whole limb rather than the painful point alone.
Where a tendon is involved, graded loading is a central part of the plan, alongside hands-on treatment and changes to the activity that is loading it.
What It Addresses
What elbow treatment addresses
Elbow treatment here is used to address presentations like these. What is driving yours is established at the evaluation.
- Pain on the outside or inside of the elbow with gripping, lifting or turning the forearm
- Elbow symptoms associated with racket sports, gym work or repetitive occupational tasks
- Tendon-related presentations identified on examination
- Elbow symptoms being assessed alongside the neck, shoulder and wrist
What to Expect
One-on-one care, built around you
Your care begins with a one-on-one evaluation. Rather than focusing on the symptoms alone, we establish a cause and effect relationship through accurate palpation and assessment of the body, then build a rehabilitation program customized to your individual needs.
- Grip and forearm strength tested, and the movements that reproduce your symptoms identified.
- Examination of the neck, shoulder and wrist as part of the elbow assessment.
- Hands-on treatment where the findings support it, alongside a loading program.
- Guidance on the activity that is loading the tendon, and how to adjust it while you are being treated.
Common Questions
Questions we are asked about Elbow Pain
- Do I have to stop playing or training?
- Not necessarily, and complete rest is often not what a tendon needs. Your therapist will tell you what to adjust and what to continue based on what the examination finds.
- Will a brace or strap help?
- That depends on the presentation and is discussed at your evaluation rather than recommended by default.
- How long do elbow tendon problems take?
- Tendon presentations are generally treated with graded loading over a course of visits. Your therapist will tell you what they expect after the examination and review it as you go.
- Do I need a referral, and is it covered?
- We accept major insurance providers, but coverage for elbow treatment varies by plan, and some plans ask for a physician's referral or prescription while others do not. Call (212) 922-0044 before your first visit and we will confirm your coverage and tell you what, if anything, you need to bring.
